The 2013-2014 qualifying season is over for our SCVA and Local teams and we are now in the beginning of our League tournaments! Here are a few highlights that you might have missed!
16-Kat got Viper off to a great start by starting in Division 1 and finishing 5th at the first Mandatory in Anaheim. In pool play, they had a great win against Wave 16-1s to get into the top 8 of SCVA, but lost to T-Street in the cross over to be top 4. Now, they are looking forward to their 2nd Mandatory this coming weekend where they will get to play T-Street again in pool play! This team will also be heading to Colorado and Los Angeles for Junior National Qualifiers - GOOD LUCK!
14-Mary Jo followed suit with a terrific round of Qualifying tournaments and started in Division 1! If you have a chance to watch this team at practice you should - they are high flying, hard working and play with an inspiring amount of enthusiasm!
13-Gale had a really good series of Qualifying tournaments and beat some good 14s teams, but just barely lost a few matches that dropped them out of Gold to start. Good news is they won their first tournament 3-0 and are now in Gold and on their way! This team also added a travel tournament to their schedule, the Fiesta Classic, and lost only 2 matches out of 9 and finished 9th. This team is full of young talent and we are excited to watch them grow this year!
15-Mark started off as a combo team that included some 16s players but after settling into 15s and adding Hannah Gitner to the roster this team has taken their game to another level. At the first mandatory, they came out and played their best volleyball of the year and moved up to Division 2 and are hunting now for Division 1!
18-Dana started strong at the first Qualifer beating a very good Goldenwest 18-1s but then found some bumps in the road and a 4th place finish at the 3rd Qualifier. Going into the 1st Mandatory with some line-up changes this team was ready to prove they could compete and they did just that by winning their cross over in a 3 game thriller and moving up to Division 3. This team is highly motivated and is looking to keep on climbing!
Here are some Local Team highlights from the Spike-Fest competition!
12-Heather, our top 12-Local Team went into their 2nd Local Tournament ranked fourth in their pool and after an incredibly competitive day they took 1st!! Way to show your skill and team development girls!
14-Chris also took 1st place at the last mandatory! This team is full of players who are new to competitive volleyball and they are proving that their practice is paying off!

Tristan Self, a senior setter and libero for our 18-1s, has been one of the top athletes in the inland Valley for the past four years. She has always been a multi-sport athlete, and at Hemet High School, Tristan has been an integral part of their volleyball and soccer success all four years.
Tristan began playing for Viper as a Junior and set our 17-1s to a 9th place finish at AAU's in Florida in the Open Division last year. On and off the court Tristan is a terrific role model as an athlete, student and team player. It has been our pleasure to have her as part of our club and we are excited to share her story with you!
Tristan, or "T", started playing volleyball in the 6th grade because she grew up around it and always went to her sisters club practices and games! Of course she wanted to play, even though she started playing soccer at the age of 6 and basketball at age 8, because it seemed like so much fun!
Tristan loves volleyball because she is constantly learning new things & enjoys the process of becoming a more complete player. Also, she says, "it is just a lot more fun than any other sport."
As the starting setter all 4 years at Hemet High, Tristan helped lead her team to three CIF Titles and four straight CIF Finals appearances. Along the way, Tristan picked up some terrific accolades that demonstrate the kind of athelte she is: 4-time first team All CIF, 2-time CIF player of the year, 4-time first team all league, 3-time league MVP, 4-time first team All Area, 3-time Maxpreps first team All-State, 2013 Maxpreps 2nd team All-American, and finalist for the Andi Collins award.
In addition to volleyball, Tristan still plays forward for the Hemet High soccer team (they are currenlty in the semis of CIF) and loves to juggle sports and life! Academically, she has been a scholar athlete all 4 years, made honor roll every semester in high school, has a 4.17 GPA and was named the 2010-2011 Biology student of the year.
What's next for Tristan? She has enjoyed playing as a setter and libero in club this year and is looking foward to playing at the next level! She is visiting some college campus' this spring and will have a decision soon!
Club Director Dana Burkholder says, "Tristan is the type of athlete and competetor every coach wants on their team. She has a huge motor, always gives everything she has, is always willing to do what's best for the team, and is simply a play maker. She has been an important part of Viper these past two years and it has been my pleasure to watch her grow and help her get to the next level."
2013-2014 has been a busy recruiting season at Viper. Many of our top players have recently commited to play in college and we would like to share their success with you. All of these girls are terrific role models for our young players who also dream of playing in college some day.
Congratulations to all of these girls for achieving their dream. Read our 2013-2014 Commitment Summaries here. New summaries were added in February of 2014, so check it out!
