Recruiting Rules

NCAA Division 1

1. You CAN contact a college coach in any division anytime you want. That means right now you can email, call, text, write or visit on campus any college coach you want. See #2 for more info on this. The more pro-active you are, the better. Be realistic, yes, but also be a go-getter!

- NCAA Dead Periods are the only restrictions where no on or off campus evaluations and no on campus visits are allowed.  This season Dead Period dates: November 9-12, 2009, December 16-31, 2009, April 12-15, 2010.

2. Until September 1 of your senior year a college coach cannot: call, email, text or write you. However, if you contact them anytime by phone - they can talk to you on the phone. They can also talk to you if you visit their campus for an "un-official visit." But, they cannot return your calls or emails until September 1 of your senior year.

3. As of July 5 of your senior year a college coach can text and email you unlimitedly. This is also when they can call you on the phone - 1x/week.

4. At your last club tournament (Festival or JO's) of your junior year, a college coach can speak to you in person at the tournament to discuss their interest in you as a perspective student athlete.

NCAA Clearing House

Clearinghouse_small

The Clearing House determines if a player has taken all the requisite classes to be eligible to compete in college. They have to be cleared by the Clearing House to be eligible to play in college. In order to be done with the Clearing House process they will need to send in final transcripts and test scores in order to be cleared.  That should happen right after they graduate. Again, the Clearing House is for eligibility and the avenue for which the NCAA makes sure that players are amateurs.

At what age/year in school should a volleyball player sign up with the Clearing House? They should register for the Clearing House as soon as they want (sophomore or junior year is a good time depending on the level of the academic qualifications for the University).

When do Colleges actually look at the Clearing House?
Not until they are scheduled to come on an official visit. That is really the first time that schools will check it.

NCAA Clearing House

The Clearinghouse serves three main constituent groups: prospective student-athletes, high school administrators, and NCAA member institutions.
