12 Kat & Tommy
Our 12-1s were a true inspiration this season, and to boot, they were the most successful 12s team in Viper history - and we’ve had some good team! Here are some highlights: they finished first in every pool play this season and made it to the finals in every playoffs except one. They only lost three matches the entire SCVA season, 2 to Long Beach and 1 to Wave. But, they beat Long Beach in the Finals of Regionals to take the title! They attended Junior Nationals in the top division (National) and finished tied for 5th. They beat some incredible teams and showed tremendous competitiveness and sportsmanship throughout the tournament!
14-2 Steve & Jamie
This was a young 14 Elite team that improved tremendously throughout the season. Many of them came in with no elite experience and have really become skilled-in-system players. They had a set back mid-season when they lost their setter, Rachel, but they still spent the whole season in Division 3. At Regionals, they served teams off the floor and played really amazing rover defense to take their flight championship. At AAU’s in Florida, this team had a tough first two days but really came back strong in the last two days and put together some great volleyball. They finished 3-0 on the last day and again took their flight championship!
14-1 Merilee & Costa
14 Merilee was a young 14s team with a few 13 year-olds and a few players who were new to Viper. This team was in Division 2 most of the season and saw really big improvement by the end of the year tournament in Florida. They went 9-0 at AAU’s until they faced the eventual champion to get into the top 8. With an overall finish of 9-1, they had a terrific tournament and played their best volleyball of the season!
15-2 Steve
15 Steve was a really young team with a lot of new, young and athletic talent. Having said that, they were a very strong and dynamic team that had a great season. They were a great serving and blocking team and spent the whole year battling in Division 3. They competed in 15 Club at AAU’s in Florida and really showed how much they improved.
15-1 Mary Jo & Dana
This was one Viper’s best teams this season. To start the season, they won 2 tournaments back-to-back - Division 2 and then Division 1. The 3rd tournament they finished 3rd. A pretty impressive start! At the Anaheim JNQ they just missed the top 8 in a tough crossover loss to an on-fire SoCal Elite who they had previous beaten 3 times. The following weekend they went to Kansas City and had a terrific tournament, finishing 2nd overall and qualifying in Open for Junior Nationals. The most thrilling match of this tournament was against KC Power - it was a three game thriller that was incredibly intense for 15s! At Junior Nationals the team got off to a slow start on the first day and couldn’t recover into the top half of the field. They lost to big teams like Orlando, Woodlands Wave and Vision from Northern California. In days 2 and 3 they came back and beat Skyline and CVC, both in 3 games. They finished tied for 21st.
16-2 Tommy & Jamie
Tommy always has one of the hardest working teams in the gym and this team was no exception. This team had a slow start but with a lot of hard work and training, they became a team of really strong players. Their last SCVA Mandatory and Regionals were a testament to their hard work - they won their division in both! At AAU’s they proved again that they were a tough team by winning three really long hard matches on the last day to win their flight championship!
16-1 Dana & Costa
16 Dana was one of the best teams in SoCal this year. They finished 3rd at 2 SCVA Mandatories were ranked in the top 8 for most of the season. They had some big wins throughout the season - 1 vs T-Street 16-1, 3 vs Orange Country 16-1, 2 vs Sunshine 16-1. Perhaps the biggest win of the season came in their Regionals tournament when they beat #1 ranked Wave 16-1. The team played really terrific volleyball the whole tournament, but this was certainly a big highlight considering Wave had only lost 2 matches the entire season!
This team continued it’s end of the year success at AAU’s in the Open Division where they beat Open JN teams like Front Range and Orlando (finished 3rd at JN’s). They were 9-0 going into the round for Top 8 and had to face a very big and athletic Sports Performance 16-1 team. It was an incredible match where these girls played the best volleyball of their life (so far) and just barely came up short 12-15 in the third. What a tournament and what a year for these girls! Also of note this season, was that setter Taylor Johnson committed to play for the University of Oregon.
Picture: Players (Cassidy Wilson, Christin Fisher, Annie Stonick and Amber Bryan) get interviewed by ESPN TV at AAU's!
17 Aaron & Costa
The 17s team had a smaller roster this season in that they weren’t a big tall team so they had to rely on their ball control and speed to beat 17s and 18s teams. Lead by Allysa Medina, who committed to Hampton as a sophomore, this team found their groove as the season progressed and they figured out how to win! They won their 4th SCVA tournament and were one of the top 25 17s team in SCVA. At AAU’s they got to play and shine in front of a ton of college scouts in a tough 17 Club division.
18 Brian
18 Brian was a team of almost all unsigned seniors at the beginning of the year. By mid-season almost all our seniors had committed and by the end of the season all 10 were committed! With such a large squad (12 players), everyone on the team had an important role that gave the team a competitive advantage in some way. One of their best showings of the season was 2nd place in the 951 Friendship Tournament where lost a very tight one game playoff to 951 18-1 (31-29). They won their 3rd SCVA Tournament and finished 3rd in the Silver Bracket at SCVA Regionals (7-1 match record for Regionals). They competed at AAU’s in Florida, but without a full squad it was difficult to compete at the incredibly high Open Level. The team pulled together though and gave their best effort for a final hoorah before heading off to college! Good luck to all our seniors and thanks for being a part of Viper!
12 Emily
Everyone on Emily's team was new to volleyball this season. With all of their hard work they finished 2nd in almost every tournament and also won 1 tournament! Serving is a big deal in the 12s and a few players on this team averaged 7 or more aces per tournament. Their best server, Kayli Barrera averaged 10 per tournament!
12 Amber
This was a great group of young players just beginning in their career. Only 2 girls could serve over the net at the beginning of the year and now they all can. This team is proud that they learned all the rotations in serve receive! More than anything this team has really grown in their skills.
12 Donna
What coach Donna is most proud of is the fact that these young ladies, who were of little or no experience this season, came out and worked together with enthusiasm to accomplish their goals. It truly became fun to watch them play as their skills developed and they grew into learning the complexity of the game of volleyball. This 12-2 team took 1st place both Saturday and Sunday of the Regionals tournament and finished strong - winning the Silver Championship and taking 33rd overall!
13-Tawney
The biggest highlight for this team was the tremendous growth of the players. For some of these girls it was their first year playing competitively and they have come a long way. It was a joy to watch their fight and excitement with each earned point. One season highlight is when the team was down 13-24 and battled back to win the game and eventually the match. Charli served 14 points in a row and all the parents were on their feet! This teams was also very entertaining - most visibly with Cameryn's coordinated outfits at EVERY practice. And finally, this team also won their pool at the Temecula Championship !
14 Carrie
This team had mostly young 13s players who developed a long way this year. Many of the players were also new to their positions and had a lot to learn. This team was an all-out defense team that worked hard to keep every ball from the floor. By the end of the season, you could see how much they improved and that these girls are going to turn into great strong players as they grow with the sport. Some of the girls are off to high school and we know they are going to do great things!
14 Mark
This team lost their coach at the beginning of the season, but coach Mark stepped in and did a terrific job. The girls on this team played with a ton of spirit and their team chemistry was second to none. Mark says it was scary to watch their backrow hits because they were as hard as their front row hits. They started the season ranked 179 and steadily moved up, finishing at Regionals standing at 121. An improvement of 68 places!!
15 Mark
This team really represents our future in the best way; they volunteered twice at the homeless shelter and actually brought their own cooked meals the second time. They have thoughtful and respectful sportsmanship no matter winning or losing, and a competitive spirit unmatched by some of the most talented teams. They improved their ranking from the beginning of the year of 144 to the final Regional standing of 81. 63 places!!
15 Pat
This team was loaded with young talent. Some of the players could not play at all the tournaments for personal reasons so the line-up changed frequently, but this didn’t stop this team. They showed up and competed well at all the tournaments and found ways to succeed with the group on the floor. This team had a great sense of humor and really made the season fun. This team played really well at the Soiree, and had a great time visiting Disneyland!
16 Aaron
Coach Aaron’s team was one of Viper’s most spirited teams this season. This team competed really hard and refused to lose matches. They played with a real vivaciousness! They were a strong defensive and serving team all season.
16 Sue/Alllissa
16 Sue/Allissa had to overcome a lot of challenges throughout the season, and yet they still managed to work well as a team and succeed. With a small squad the girls had to learn to communicate and rely on each other while playing. This team consistently improved their ranking and came in 1st or 2nd place in most of their tournaments.
16 Tracy
Each player on 16-Tracy had a specific role and took it on with confidence. They took pride in being able to outsmart and out execute their opponent - which lead to winning two tournaments this season. Their goal was to finish strong at Regionals and the Soiree and they did just that! They caught up to our 16-2 team at Regionals and just lost in the Championship round, finishing 90th place. At the Soiree they finished fourth in the Bronze Division after almost making it into the top ten!
10 John
This young 7-10 year old team hung in with 12 year old teams in the Spike Fest League. They won their first match against a 10 and under team at the last tournament. Their biggest accomplishment this season was definitely their serving, they finished the last tournament with a 82% serve percentage, - out of the 110 serves they made only 20 service errors and had 67 aces!
12 Heather
Everyone on this team improved dramatically in every skill. They all played hard, learned a lot and had a good time. This team was a really strong team in that they really loved each other and had a great time on and off they court. We were told we were the best refereeing team in a tournament - what an honor!
12 Danny
This team started off the season with a bang! They were too cute in the 80's dress up contest at the Viper Kick Off and then they also WON the cheer competition! These girls worked hard all season and learned how to be a team. The highlight of their year was winning their 4th tournament and playing well in the power pools against tough competition. They also won the 12s Temecula Championship at Rancho.
14 Carl
Carl’s team consisted of mostly new volleyball players. They worked really hard on serving and passing and a big highlight was taking first in one of their last Spike Fest Tournaments. A funny note about this team is that once this team got the "giggles" there was literally no way to stop it. They even giggled while they were running lines for giggling too much.
14 Tami & Mike
This team had a lot of talent on it and they had a very successful season individually and as a team. At the last tournament they just barely lost in 3 to the #1 seed and then came out in their last match for a three game battle where they were down 1-7. Coach Mike told them they needed to believe in themselves and execute what they had been taught. They went out from a 1-7 deficit and snatched the win 15-9. This win gave them first place in the pool!
16 Courtney
The girls on 16 Courtney improved immensely from the start of the season. They've become well rounded players and it shows. Each tournament they played better and better and in their last tournament they got to take a match to three games. This team had really dedicated players with great personalities and it made the season a lot of fun. At the end of the season, this team WON the Temecula Championship 14/16 Local Pool!
16 Bailee
Bailee’s team was comprised of mostly freshman who were relatively new to the sport. At the first tournament, the girls were running into each other and falling left and right, and one girl shanked a ball and hit one of the mom's soda and it spilled all over her shirt and one girl got so far tangled in the net she needed help getting out... ? After that tournament, the team did a complete 180. Some of the plays they made at the end of the season would shock you because they are so awesome. This team was one of Viper’s most improved teams!
16/18 Alli
Many of the girls on this team have played together before, and played for coach Alli before. They were a very close group that always stayed positive with each other and for each other. They were a strong serving team and worked their way up into a Power Pool at the spike-fest tournaments earning 250 points! Good luck to the seniors from this team who are headed off to college!
