Junior Olympics

12s_jo2008team_small

Three of our teams earned berths to the 2008 Junior Olympics this year, held in Dallas, Texas.

12-Rochelle/Tommy – One of only 4 teams from our region to receive a bid has accepted the bid in the American division. This team has never been out of the top 6 in SCVA all season. Their consistency in the JO qualifier tournament earned them 5th place. This will be the first 12s Viper team to accept and attend the Junior Olympics.

14-Merilee – turned down National Bid, but still a huge accomplishment to be offered the highest club division bid. It was decided based on the best interest of the girls and families involved on the team that they would reluctantly turn down the bid. We are excited and looking forward to seeing them compete against the best of them in Festival.

18-Vemma – was awarded the American Club division bid. The team has been tough competitors throughout their season, coming close to earning a bid at the qualifier as they finished 3rd overall. This will be the first 18s Viper team to accept and attend the Junior Olympics.

Coaching Addition

Thanks to all of you, we have great and exciting things happening at Temecula Volleyball Club. I believe it all comes from our main premise that “good values attract good people”.

The most exciting news is the newest addition to our coaching staff, Dana Burkholder. She is a two-time 1st team all-American and former Pac 10 player of the year as well as a former member of the National Team and an assistant coach at University of Arizona.  Her experience and perspective as a player and a coach at the highest levels will be a perfect compliment to our existing program. What I like the most is that she is as excited about the relationship with our club, as I am. Dana had heard about the “nightmares” involved with club volleyball, and was pleasantly surprised to find a club, where all the coaches work together and respect each other as we work towards a common goal.  Specifically, to help each person in our organization, whether they are a coach or a player, perform at their highest potential.

Dana has joined the already incredible coaching staff at the Temecula Valley Volleyball Club.
"I am so excited to be apart of such a dynamic club. I immediately recognized that everyone involved has the same vision and is working together to bring young players the best opportunity to succeed and grow. Though winning is important, I have learned from experience that winning isn't everything, and I love that TVC trains the whole person and really cares about the kids."
At my first practice, I couldn't believe the level of technical training in the gym. Many of the players are already learning and executing skills that I wasn't exposed to until after college. It's going to be a lot of fun to work with players and coaches who want to train at the highest possible level. On top of the great volleyball training, their fitness regime is top of the line and you can really see that the girls are fit and strong in the right places.
More than anything I feel lucky to join an organization that is founded on coming together, working together, and growing together."

Thanks,

Dana Burkholder

"Remember that success can take month - or years to achieve, but can be undone in minutes."
That is why conditioning-physical, mental and moral is so important.  A leader must impress upon his or her team the paramount importance of ownership and personal accountability.

"Beware of those who will do whatever it takes to win"
Winning at any cost can be very costly, fatal, in fact.  A good set of values is part of successful leadership and great organizations.  Be wary of those who will do anything to win.  This is not the attitude of a great competitor, but rather a competitor who is greatly flawed.  Find those who love the battle and play by the rules.
