Techincal Director & Director of Coaches & Recruiting
Dana is a former player turned passionate coach. Her understanding of the game and how to teach it is exhibited with enthusiasm and joy. As a former NCAA Final Four participant and 2x First Team All-American setter for the University of Arizona from 1998-2001, she understands and believes that sports isn't all about winning. Yes, winning is part of sports, but there is so much more and honestly, that's the fun part! Training, learning, teamwork, executing difficult things under pressure, making friends... this is what makes sports great and fun for kids!
Dana's passion is creating and developing a positive, effective, and reliable learning environment wherein both coaches and players can thrive. Volleyball is a big classroom that some people happen to love and enjoy and Dana's goal is to share what she knows and what she's learning with the indivduals and teams at Viper. Trevor was born and raised in Hawaii, and graduated from the volleyball powerhouse, Punahou. Trevor went on to become the number 1 recruit in the nation in 1986 and decided to join UCLA and coach Al Scates. At UCLA, he went on to win two national championships and become a three time all-american and the national player of the year in 1989. Many of the collegiate records set by Trevor 20 years ago still stand today. After leaving UCLA in 1990, Trevor joined the USA National team and earned medals in the World Cup, World Championships, and Norceca Championships.
Trevor married fellow Bruin and women’s volleyball All-american Ann (Boyer) Schirman in 1991. Trevor came to Temecula in September 2008 to open the fourth location of Off Road Warehouse. In doing so he gave up his coaching position at Grossmont High School in El Cajon and is currently assisting at Great Oak High.
Trevor has coached club and high school volleyball for a number of years and he and his wife have run their own volleyball camps across the nation. Trevor feels strongly that his success was directly related to quality of the coaching he received throughout his career. His goal at Viper is to pass on the knowledge, experiences and lessons that he has accumulated over his career. This is Brianna's first year coaching with the Vipers. She is currently the First Assistant Coach at UC Riverside, coaching under the 2008 Olympic Gold Medal winning coach Ron Larsen.
Before coaching at UC Riverside, Brianna was the Assistant Coach at the University of Maryland Baltimore County, and helped coach the team to a 3rd place finish in the America East Conference during the 2008 season.
Brianna played for UC San Diego and finished her career as a Division II First Team All-American and lead her team to the Elite 8 in 2006. As a club player, Brianna has won a gold, silver and bronze medal at the Junior Olympics in 16 Open, 18 Open and 14 Open, respectively. In 2001, Brianna won a Division I State Championship at Archbishop Mitty High School in San Jose, CA.
Brianna has previously coached club teams at Encinitas Wave and TCA Baltimore, and we are extremely excited to have her on the Vipers' staff.
Rachel is the newest member of the Viper coaching staff. She recently arrived from Arizona Western College, where she spent one year as the assistant coach. Her SoCal roots (originally from Upland) finally pulled her back home and she is excited to join the Temecula Volleyball Club.
At Arizona Western, Rachel was responsible for coaching and player development, recruiting, and directing the conditioning program. She also taught Personal Training, Fitness, and Weight Training classes at the College.
Before taking the job at Arizona Western, Rachel made a name for herself in Tucson - both as a player and as a coach. She played for the University of Arizona Volleyball team from 1999-2002. She was a four-year starting defensive specialist (before they had "liberos") for the Wildcats' teams that won a Pac-Ten Championship in 2000, reached the Final Four in 2001 and advanced as far as the Elite Eight in each of her other three seasons.
When Rachel's playing career came to an end, she went headfirst into the coaching ranks, taking over the head coaching reins of both the boy's & girls' varsity volleyball programs at Amphitheater High School in Tucson, Arizona. During her five-year tenure at Amphi, Williams led the girls to regional titles in 2007 and 2008.
The 2008 season concluded with an appearance in the Arizona Class 4 AII State Finals-the first time they’d reached the title game in 23 years. During her high school coaching career, Williams was named Region Coach of the Year twice, Arizona Daily Star Coach of the Year in 2007, and both Southern Arizona Coach of the Year and Tucson Citizen Coach of the Year in 2007 & 2008.
Rachel has also spent the last 9 years coaching at various clubs; including Dinamo Volleyball Club, Club Cactus Juniors, Zona Volleyball Club, and even the University of Arizona Women’s club volleyball team for a season. In 2006, Rachel was a coach on the first team (17-1s) from Tucson to ever make it to the JO's!
One of Rachel's highlists as a coach was getting to coach overseas. The past two summers, Rachel worked with People to People to teach volleyball to kids in Europe. She was in Holland in 2008 and Austria in 2009.
Rachel earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Communications (with a minor in athletic coaching) at the University of Arizona in 2003. She will complete the coursework for her Teaching Certification this summer and is currently working on her Masters in Coaching and Athletic Administration.
This will be Dani's first year coaching with Viper Volleyball. Dani was a competitive player in high school, club and college.
Dani has been coaching volleyball camps and giving private lessons in San Diego and Atlanta for the past six years. In addition, for the past two years she coached club teams in Atlanta with Tsunami Volleyball Club. In 2009, she took the Head Coaching position at Linfield High School and will be joining the Viper staff.
Dani loves that volleyball is centered on the team, on a group of young women or men working together for common goals. At Emory, her team became her family and that is the type of caring, supportive, and competitive environment that she wants to create for her teams at Viper.
Dani recently finished her college career in 2008. As captain, Dani led Emory University’s team to win the NCAA DIII National Championship in 2008, which was a first for Emory volleyball. The team was very unique and the NCAA recognized three of the players as All-Americans, and five as All-Conference selections, including myself. In addition, Dani was recognized as an Academic All-American, received an NCAA Post-Graduate Scholarship and is currently one of the nine finalists for the 2008 NCAA Woman of the Year Award. It was truly a remarkable season.
Dani played at San Diego Volleyball Club for her 14s and 15s seasons, and then finished up her club career with Epic on their 17-1 and 18-1 teams. I am truly looking forward to returning to southern California style volleyball! Although her playing career is now finished, she looks forward to a lifetime of coaching and staying close to the game.
My husband, Mynor Schult, is the high school pastor for Sunridge Community Church, and I teach AP European History at Linfield Christian School.
Kathleen ‘Kat’ began her playing career in the sixth grade after watching her Mom and Dad play in a rec. league. She fell in love with the sport immediately. She excelled in high school and was named team MVP as well as League MVP her senior year.
After high school Kathleen attended UC Riverside on a volleyball scholarship. Kathleen played right side but primarily set for the highlanders. It was there that she realized her love for teaching and coaching volleyball. She earned a BA in Liberal Arts, a teaching credential and Master’s Degree from UCR. She taught sixth grade for five years and now stays home to raise her two children.
Coaching began for Kathleen when she was just eighteen; she coached her younger sister’s club team. While attending UCR she had the opportunity to coach for numerous UCR volleyball camps along side Sue Gozansky and Monica Trainer and for the National Youth Sports Program in Riverside. She has also coached two high school seasons for Rancho Verde High School, two seasons of club and for Viper in 2006. In 2007 Kathleen and her family moved to the bay area where she coached for Pinnacle VBC. She is excited to be back in Temecula and coaching with Viper again. She is currently coaching JV at Murrieta Valley HS and loves it!
In her free time she enjoys working out and spending time with her husband Scott and their two kids Drew-3 and Brooklyn-1.
Jill is very excited to join the Viper Organization. She brings over 5 years of coaching experience at both the high school and club level, plus a lifetime of playing the sport. She coached for Park Center last season and is looking forward to an exciting season coaching one of Viper's 14 local teams.
Her youngest daughter, Tanya, played on Viper's 18-1 Team in 2009 and is currently playing at Arizona Western, and Jill is very thankful that Dana, Ed, and the entire Viper organization for their commitment to helping athletes achieve their dreams.
Tommy has been coaching volleyball at the club level for 7 years. He has worked with players from 7-18 and really excels at teaching the fundamentals of the game at every level. Tommy not only coaches his own teams, he also helps to train multiple Viper teams. His enthusiasm and drive to help players improve their skills and understanding of the game is contagious.
For the past four years Tommy has been coaching the 12-Elite level at Viper. In 2009, Tommy and Meri Jo led the 12 Elite team to a 3rd place finish at the Festival. They started off in Division 4 after a slow start but finished the season in Division 1. Due to a last minute coaching change in 2009, Tommy also coached the 12-2's and had amazing results. The team, made up of 90% new-to-the-sport players, started the season at 57th and ended the season at 32nd.
Tommy coached the JV at Temescal Canyon High School in Lake Elsinore for 2 years and also coached at the Varsity level. Tommy is currently coaching the JV at Linfield Christian. He also gives private lessons year round.
The 2010 Viper Club season will be Merilee's 8th year coaching with TVC. Merilee coached the 12-2's for two consecutive seasons before moving to the 14’s age Division. She coached the 14-2’s and 14-2 Elite for 3 seasons. In 2008 and 2009 she coached the 14-1 Elite teams to great success.
Merilee does a terrific job of preparing 14 year old players to prepare for the high school level. The past two years 80% of her players have not only made their varsity team but either started or contributed greatly. Not only does she produce great players, but she is an enthusiastic coach who demands a high level of focus and intensity.
Merilee coached High School Varsity for 2 years, assisted Varsity at EHS, and coached the freshman and Junior Varsity teams there as well.
Merilee graduated from USIU in San Diego (now Alliant University), where she played college volleyball. She was the graduate assistant on the Women's Volleyball Team her 5th year, while earning her Teaching Credential.
Merilee met her husband, Michael over 20 years ago when they played grass/beach Co-ed Tournaments together. Now married for 19 years, they have a son, Jake and he is 12 years old. Merilee loves camping at the beach, Disneyland and Disneyworld, hanging out with her 7 siblings, their children, playing with her 2 Golden Retrievers and watching her son play volleyball and football.
