Plastic, plastic and more plastic!

68_small

Volleyball players drink a LOT of water! Nowadays that water comes to the gym in plastic bottles instead of water jugs. We encourage you to take HOME all your plastic bottles to ensure they get recycled. Do not leave them at Rancho unless a recycling team collects them from you at practice.

You could also consider buying an "old-fashioned" re-usable water bottle or jug to bring to practice too!

Let's all MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Elaine Hicks - Commits to Cal State Dominguez Hills!

Californiastateu-dominguezhills_prm_9999_medium_small

Elaine "Lainey" Hicks commited to California State Dominguez Hills on Thursday, February 11th, 2010. Lainey has been one of the best players in our club for the past 5 years. She really began to dominate last year as an outside hitter on the 18-1's. She continued that success into her final high school season at Elsinore, where she led the volleyball team to its first ever CIF Championship.

This season Lainey is the number one outside hitter on Temecula 18-Brianna. She is known throughout Southern California by both club and college coaches as a very quick hitter that can score against any team. Laine is definitely the kind of player you notice out on the court because she is very agressive and can take control of a match. Her and setter Mariah Agre have truly learned to work together and perfect their timing - it is fun to watch!

Lainey will join the Toros this fall and will be an impact player as a freshman. Another coach in the conference said she is an "All Conference Player" so it looks like Lainey is set to have a great college experience! Congrats Elaine!

From Dominguez Hills Press Release:

Looking to become competitive in the always-tough California Collegiate Athletic Association, Cal State Dominguez Hills women's volleyball head coach Scott Davenport has announced the addition of Elaine Hicks of Wildomar.

With a family whose background runs deep in volleyball, including three aunts who played NCAA Division I ball, Hicks is also no stranger to the sport with five years of club experience with Temecula-Viper under her belt while also helping lead Elsinore High School to its first-ever CIF Championship title.

Recruited by dozens of top D-I schools including San Jose State, UC Riverside, Boise State and Portland State, Davenport sought out Hicks as she is "a very talented and accomplished volleyball player who has a very high volleyball IQ and fierce competitive nature."

Ultimately the decision for Hicks to pick the Carson campus came down to "liking the coaches, the other players and staying in Southern California."

While at CSUDH, Hicks will major in Psychology and hopes to one day become a therapist with the goal of helping people.  Hicks was a standout for Elsinore HS as a junior and senior, being named an All-Sun Belt League Selection both years and to the All-CIF team both years as well.

Thanks for you Support!

Many of our teams have been hosting fundraisers to raise money this season. We have gotten SO MUCH support from all our Viper teams and families and would like to extend a BIG THANK YOU!!!

Apparently Poker Night and Wine on A Dime were both a HUGE hit!

THANKS EVERYONE!!!

Viper's Lost and Found is in the ball storage area.  Please ask your coach to help you look in the lost and found after your practice. If you find something, please give it to your coach to put in the lost & found. Lots of things go missing so let's work together to keep things from getting lost!

ALSO: Please check at the end of your practice to make sure you have everything you came with - sweats, bags, phones, etc.

Go Vipers! Lookin' Good!

Qualifier Summarys!

Allysa2_large

Congratulations to all our teams for doing a great job in the Qualifiers! Here is a summary for each Regional, Travel and Elite team... some are coming soon!

18-Brianna - they have improved tremendously since the first Qualifier. Though they struggled at the 3rd Qualifier and will be starting in Division 3, it was their experience there that led to a tremendous 21st place at the Las Vegas Classic. They beat top ranked Orange County 18-Roxy to make it to the Gold Bracket and competed very tough against other top ranked teams from around the country! UPDATE: 18-1s WON the Division 3 mandatory and are moving up to Division 2! Unfortunately, setter Mariah Agre has to sit out with a swollen knee and won't be competing.

18-Dani - This team has improved so much since the season started. Without any BIG height on the team these girls pass and play defense with the best of them! They did well in the qualifiers with a handful of tough losses and great wins. They are leading the Bronze Division and plan to jump to Silver in their first Mandatory! Biggest highlight so far: Beat Encinitas Wave in a brilliant 3-game match at the last qualifier!

17-Rachel - The 17 Elite team had a GREAT weekend in Las Vegas, winning all of our pool play matches keeping us in the top 5 in the tournament. On Saturday we played well enough in the morning to play a double day and move into bracket play that evening where we played and won at 5:30p then played and lost at 9:30p. We had an incredibly looooong day but the team fought together supported each other and represented Viper well in Nevada! We play this weekend down in San Diego to kick off our 1st Mandatory tournament in Division 3! We're excited to compete and can't wait for the weekend!

16-Dana - this team is off to a great start. The girls come to practice everyday and work hard to improve and it shows at the tournaments. They beat a very good 5th ranked 15-Elite Wave team at the first Qualifier to move up to 13th in SCVA. At the 3rd Qualifier they beat all three teams easily and will be starting in Divsion 1. This was the first goal the team set and they are excited to achieve their next goal... Win a mandatory touranment!

16-Tommy - This team is off to a great start. Though they've had some injured players they are playing at a very high level. They took 1st in their first two qualifiers - really dominating the field and looking very controlled and in-system. The third qualifier was when it got really fun and competitive. They played the top seeded Laguna 16-1 very tough and beat Rancho Valley 16-1 to finish 2nd in the pool and start in Division 2. This is the best start we've ever had for a 16-2 Elite team and we are so excited for these players to get off to a good start!

16-Ed - We have been working hard both in practice and at the qualifers.  We took second on the first Qualifer playing well and getting to know each other.  We took fourth place in Qualifer 2 and lost all our matches that day but on the bright side the girls battle hard with each team and played very well.  We started qualifer 3 as the third seed and then moved up to second after points were calculated due to a three way tie for first, it was a heart breaker.  Going forward our team is working hard and having fun learning and playing the game.  We are looking forward to our first Mandatory on March 6  Go VIPER!!!!!

16-Alyssa - The first qualifier went pretty well for us. We got to see how the girls were playing against other teams as well as how they were with eachother. We did a great job with fighting back from deficits as well as serving really well against teams. The girls really formed into their roles on the court well and kept a solid offense running a lot of the time. We ended up losing to two teams, and winning our last match. The second and third qualifiers were difficult for us, but you could definately see the improvements we made as a team. Our serve recieve passing improved as well as our out of system setting and understanding of how to handle situtations out of our own position knowledge. Though tough in the loss column, we had great amounts of improvements individually... you can really see that the positional training and the skills the we practiced are really working for the girls.

16-Aaron - coming soon...

15- Rachel - The 15 Elite team has had a great run so far and after two Qualifying Tournaments, haven't lost even a set! Everyone on the team is playing and contributing and each team member has improved so much from the beginning of the season until now. We play this coming weekend in our first Mandatory tournament and are excited to be starting in Division One! :] This was our first goal as a team and we reached it as a team. Simply awesome! "I'm so proud of each team member. We are setting goals and reaching them, we are quick to make adjustments and are working toward being a hard team to beat both physically and mentally." - Coach, Rachel Williams  "This team has a bunch of gamers...whether it is practice or a mathc, they are ready to compete!" - Coach, Rochelle Short

15-Pat - The 15-2’s are coming along GREAT.! Qualifier #1 we came in seeded 1st but lost a tough 3 setter and finished 2nd.  Our 2nd qualifier came in seeded 4th and played a strong Mizuno Long Beach team that had at least 3 to 4 girls over 6 foot; and a tough Impact team, both teams are high up in the Gold Division. We really battled and came together as a team to take 3rd.  Our 3rd qualifier we came in seeded 2nd and ended up taking 1st, but had to play a couple of 3 game nail biters. The girls keep working hard and are improving each tournament. Great job!

15-Kat - After a rough start this season the 15's have really come together as a team. The improvements that they have made in the past three tournaments are outstanding. I have had such a great time as a coach watching this team overcome their struggles with injuries and illness to become a hardworking, successful TEAM. Our biggest accomplishment this season is taking first in our pool at the Q-3 and dominating our opponents! They are learning so much and taking each opportunity to grow and become the best they can possibly be! Way to go girls!

14-Rochelle - the team had two amazing qualifiers.  Our latest proved to be the best outing from our team.  We played well through two good teams.  We were able to focus on our game and playing our level of volleyball.  Heading into our third match for the day we knew it was going to be a battle.  We lost the first, won the second and headed to the third set with the momentum.  We lost it quickly when we gave up the first three points of the third.  The team rallied back to from a 8-2 deficient but it was a little too late as we lost the match and third set 15-11.

Some game highlights include, all team members contributing to the success of the day!  Kills gained through out the day by Brooke, Katelyn, Taylor, Cadie, Amanda, Samantha (oh yeah-as the libero too!), Lindsey and Julia. Justus and Amanda two SWEET connections for quick Kills.  Service aces by Brooke, Katelyn, Devyn, Amanda, and Julia.  Nice work 14Elite.  Looking forward to Denver!

14-Steve - we finished the third qualifier really starting to click as a team. Even though we struggled at times, the girls have challenged some good teams! We will be starting in division 7 or 8. The girls are improving rapidly and the wins will follow. The month of march will be full of tournaments and the team is ready to go. We all are looking forward to the mandatory's!

14-Tawney - I am so proud of my team and the hard work they have put in this first part of the season.  We started off very low in the copper section and dominated in that first qualifying tournament in our home gym.  The highlight of that weekend was our RS hitter, Mikayla Lebo, who served 18 points in a row!!!  The girls had so much fun and worked well together to take home 1st place with ease.  Our second qualifying tournament brought us up against some tough teams as we moved into the bronze section.  We came in seaded 4th and knew that we had nothing to lose!!  Our girls fought hard each game and lost a few matches that were very close.  We took home 3rd along with a list of areas to work on in order to improve and ultimately move up in divisions.  I was very thankful for their positive attitude and hard work despite the losses.  This brought us to our last and final qualifying tournament this last weekend.  The girls knew how important it was to take 1st and to go in confidently each match.  The girls battled throughout each game taking each match to 3 sets.  It was very stressful for all the parents watching and to coach as each match came down to the very last point, but very proud to see my girls step up to the challenge and take home the victory!!!  It was exciting to end our last qualifying by taking home 1st place in our pool.  Thrilled to see my team in Division 9!!!  Way to go girls!!!

14-Carrie - Our team began at the bottom but had two great qualifiers which enabled us to move up steadily. Qualifier #1 we finished 2nd to Epic in a match to three. Our 2nd qualifier we were seeded 4th but came in 1st beating the Epic team that beat us in the first qualifier:) We are a team few in number and all the girls have played a role in our success. It has been fun watching how much the girls have already improved in their skill level and knowledge of the game. They had somewhat of a setback this past weekend (if you can call coming in 3rd when seeded 4th a setback) when we did not have our setter, however, the girls learned some lessons along the way. I am looking forward to the next few months in seeing the development and success i know this team is capable of.

13-Merilee - Q1- A very tough pool to start out the season, but our girls played in every game, we need to work on Finishing. We finished 4th, the other 3 teams tied for 1st. I am proud of the way the team came together and stayed positive with one another, above all else, we are a team and beyond that we are just going to get stronger and stronger.  Q2- We were 1-2 today, but we are very close to being in there with the 2nd place team. Overall, much better than Q#1. The areas we wanted to improve on got stronger. Starting in Gold would have been nice, but working and earning it will be our plan now and I know this team will respond. Q3-We were 2-1 today and the only match we lost went 3, with us taking the first game, we could have won this one too, but too many unforced errors, once we eliminate those, we will be finishing these games with wins. I am proud of our growth today and remembering that we are missing our Captain Brooklyn out with a knee injury, we did some great things.

We will start in SILVER Division 6 overall. It is a good place for us to start and we are looking forward to the challenges that are ahead for us!!

12-Merijo - Going into qualifier #1: Seated 2nd in our pool behind Jamba (Festival Champions), we knew it could be tough.  Our girls won their first 2 matches in 2.  Going into our final match against Jamba we made too many errors, We attributed the errors to lack of playing experience, and knew we would improve for the next tourney.

Qualifier #2 we started out as a 3rd seed in a tougher pool of competition.  We saw more aggressiveness and the girls gaining a better understanding of their job on the court- this is what we hope for from every tournament. We pulled through with  a 2nd place finish.

Now we head into our first mandatory on Saturday.  We are in division 2 and feel with the hard work and training the girls ave put in that we will see some great things!

12-Kat - The 12-regional team has jumped off to a great start this season. The girls are working so hard and learning so quickly. Every tournament I have watched these girls work together as a team, grow individually as players and compete like champions. We are having such a great season so far and we are looking forward to our first Mandatory tournament this weekend! Great job 12's!

2010 USA Junior Olympics to be hosted in Reno!

2008_jo_boys_volleyball_medium

USA Volleyball has awarded the 2010 USA Volleyball Girls' Junior National Championships, formerly known as the USA Junior Olympic Girls' Volleyball Championships, to the City of Reno in Nevada. The competition will be held June 24 to July 3 at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center.

The re-naming of the event creates added branding awareness toward USA Volleyball and signifies its national championship status. In addition, its gender counterpart has been renamed the USA Volleyball Boys' Junior National Championships.

Reno last hosted a USA Volleyball National Championship event in 2000, as it was the site for the 2000 USA Volleyball Boys' Junior National Championships. Reno also hosted the 1975 and 1992 USA Adult Open Volleyball Championships. In addition, Reno is the furthest west this event has taken place since it was held at San Jose in 1996.
