Make all of us share in the experience of what Martin Luther King Jr. set out to teach the world - a message of peace and love for everyone:
"Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into friend."
"The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character - that is the goal of true education."
"We must develop and maintain the capacity to forgive. He who is devoid of the power to forgive is devoid of the power to love. There is some good in the worst of us and some evil in the best of us. When we discover this, we are less prone to hate our enemies."
Inspirational Quote
This idea seems more poignant then ever because at the moment, there is a high value given to those who hit the mark of success. This high value, praise and attention can confuse athletes into believing that the success is what's important, instead of the experience of playing. It's important to remember to enjoy the playing and to keep learning the sport you love to play. That way your passion and understanding of the sport will continue to grow and expand.
The happiest athletes are able to incorporate their athletic experience and love of playing into their daily lives. They use the team concepts, self-confidence and work ethic they've learned to build strong families and relationships, succeed in school and inspire others to achieve their personal best.
A great example of this concept is Merilee's 14 Elite team from 2009. These girls really love to play volleyball and they really worked hard and improved throughout the season. After the season, they took what they learned and applied it to their daily lives. Over the fall, these girls participated in community service, Race for the Cure, made the honor roll, volunteered at Christmas tree lots, fed the homeless and made new friends in high school. Great job girls and keep up the good work!

I have spent the better part of this stormy day watching NCAA Women's Elite 8 volleyball and am really inspired by the level of play. Volleyball has improved so much since I played and the girls are so big and strong. It is really wonderful to see these ladies hard work payoff. Obviously every team can't succed to the same level in the win column, but I think the heart of every team can be fully developed win or lose. My favorite experiences as a coach and as a player have all come when both the spirit of the team was united and the team was able to play at a high level - there really isn't much better than that!
I wanted to wish all our Viper teams good luck this season - remember that being a great team takes TIME and consistent effort! Come everyday to be the player that unites your team and inspires them to achieve great things!
Hello Vipers...
What have you found inspirational lately? Well, I often times find other great sports moments inspirational... and I think there have been a lot of them this fall. I have seen more 1 minute comebacks in NFL and College football then ever before. It seems the "never give up" spirit is alive and well in athletes today.
I have also seen some tremendous team spirit by teams that just won't quit. Just today the University of Texas football team held onto it's #2 seed by kicking a 49 yard field goal with 1 second barely on the clock. It was interesting to watch the kicker warm-up and prepare to win or lose the game for his team. His team showed great trust in giving him the space he needed to prepare. He was all by himself just kicking into the net and finding his rhythm. After a number of kicks he must have felt ready because he bounced off pumping his fist as if he KNEW he was gunna succeed. All his coaches did was express their confidence in him. There was no wishing or hoping or thinking... just doing and feeling. To me the success of this kicker was not only his own but those teammates and coaches around him who understood his process and needs to succeed.

"Show me a guy who's afraid to look bad, and I'll show you a guy you can beat everytime." - Lou Brock
From Dana: This is a great quote. Why? Because it makes you think! The number 1 reason why kid athletes struggle is because they're afraid to look bad in front of their peers, parents and/or coaches. However, great athletes understand that you MUST fail before you succeed. They understand that looking bad and making mistakes is part of getting better and learning something new.
If there is one thing you can do to make yourself a better player, STOP worrying about what everyone else is thinking. You can't control it so why worry about it? Control the things you can control - which is giving your all, being coachable and loving the sport!
If you want to be a champion
you have to take risks...
"Seek to achieve something that has lasting value to ensure that you will be happy with the reward. Many times, the hard part is not achieving a goal, but setting the right one." -- db
